I will be performing “Fnugg Blue” with the University of Hawaii Wind Ensemble this month on Maui and Oahu. For those who are not familiar, Fnugg is a Nordic word that means “something so light as to be almost weightless – like a snowflake.” Yep, that’s me and my tuba! It is a seriously fun piece that mixes Norwegian folk song, Aboriginal Didgeridoo technique, and Funk. I’ll be playing multiphonics (two notes at once), lip beat (think beat boxing on the tuba), and up and down the full range of the instrument (more than four octaves)!
We’ll be performing a concert on Maui at Baldwin Auditorium at 4p on Sunday February 17th. We’ll be doing clinics with Baldwin High School during the day.
