Playing and Teaching in Hawaii!

June 18, 2012 By T. J.

It was officially announced today that I have won a position playing tuba with the Royal Hawaiian Band. I am incredibly pleased and proud to join such a wonderful organization with such a rich history! Established 176 years ago by King Kamehameha III, the Royal Hawaiian Band is the only band in American with a Royal legacy and, as a department of the City and County of Honolulu, it is the only full-time municipal band in the US. I am excited to be part of a band that performs over 300 concerts a year at venues ranging from the grounds of the Iolani Palace to Retirement Communities and Elementary Schools. I had been working as a substitute with the band on Tuba, Euphonium, and Trombone.

I will also be teaching Tuba, Euphonium, and Music Education this fall at the University of Hawaii-Manoa! The numbers are a bit down in the tuba and euphonium studios, so if you are interested in pursuing a BM, BA, BE, MM, MA, or PhD and would like to study at one of the most beautiful places on earth, please consider checking out UH.

More musical outreach feedback

September 1, 2011 By T. J.

Here are some notes that John and I received after our Primary School performances. Yes, that first one is a tuba spewing fire. Awesome. In the second one, they managed to show that John is thinner than I am. . . in stick figures! Well done!
